Nothing in nature is stuck

"Nothing in nature is stuck." — Arawana Hayashi, Social Presencing Theater

Beloved Sonorous Being,

Do you feel it? The tight grip of resistance in your body, mind, and heart? The heaviness that presses upon your spirit and convinces you that you must hold, control, and endure?

This resistance is not of your true nature. It is not you.
It is a construct born of your mind’s interpretations of past experiences.

As Dr. Gabor Maté reminds us, "Trauma is not what happens to you, but what happens inside you." And so, resistance takes root within, not from the event itself, but from the meaning the mind assigns to it. This meaning becomes a story, and that story becomes a pattern. The body, in its loving response, mirrors the mind. It tightens. It contracts. It armors itself.

But hear this: This resistance is not real. It is artificial.
It is like a program running in the background — a form of artificial intelligence embedded in your nervous system.

Exploring the Source of Resistance

To explore this resistance, when appropriate, we use elements of 3D Mapping as part of our reflection process, combined with sound and voice as methods of release. Objects are placed to symbolize different aspects of a system — relationships, emotions, or even beliefs.

In the beginning, the objects lie scattered, like fragments of a story waiting to be told. But as we engage with the process, patterns emerge, revealing where the flow is stuck and what is longing to move.

Note: The concept of 3D Mapping is inspired by the pioneering work of Arawana Hayashi and Social Presencing Theater, a practice that invites embodied awareness and systemic insight through simple, profound movements and spatial arrangements. We honor this lineage as it informs our unique approach to reflection and release.

Before the map is created, the objects rest like fragments of a story waiting to be told. Through intention and presence, these pieces begin to reveal the dynamics of the system — offering clarity and inviting flow.

The Sound of Release

With the guidance of your voice and the sound “AHH,” these patterns begin to shift. The vibration opens the heart and releases the grip of resistance. What once felt heavy becomes light, fluid, and spacious.

Look to nature:
Nothing in nature is stuck. Rivers flow. Leaves fall. Clouds move. The soil shifts.
And you, too, are nature.

Your body possesses its own guidance system — what my Nia teacher, Ann Christiansen, calls “anatomical intelligence.” While artificial resistance tells you to constrict, hold, and control, anatomical intelligence invites you to release, move, and flow.

Note: While the use of “AHH” as a sound of release is rooted in ancient practices of sound healing, this particular approach to the exercise was refined through training with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST). Their guidance on sound as a method of release, reflection, and well-being continues to inform this work.

This is not a battle.
This is not a war.
This is a return.

Where in your life do you feel resistance? What would it feel like to "overwrite" it and return to your natural flow?

🌀 Practice: Dissolving Resistance with the AHH Sound 🌀

Here is a simple practice to begin the release:

  • Take a slow, full breath in through your nose.
  • As you exhale, release the sound “AHH” from your chest, letting it be soft, open, and effortless.
  • Feel the vibration of “AHH” resonating in your heart space. Witness it. Allow it. Let it be.
  • Repeat for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the sound to dissolve resistance in all layers — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
  • Notice how your body feels afterward.

Reflection and Integration

After practicing the sound, take a few moments to sit with these questions:
  • What stories or constructs does your mind hold that may no longer serve you?
  • What shifted, if anything, after releasing sound?
  • How might you move differently in your life if this resistance dissolved completely?

These reflections are an invitation to integrate the insights and allow them to ripple through your life.

    FIELD NOTES

Welcome to Field Notes, where we share stories of transformation, moments of resonance, and the profound insights that emerge from our work at Creativity Lab. Each entry captures the essence of our journey—working with sound, movement, and reflection to help individuals reconnect with their inner wisdom, embrace their authentic expression, and find balance in the dualities of life. These notes offer a glimpse into the shifts we witness: the reclamation of joy through pain, the power of trusting one’s inner voice, and the beauty of holding space for others to step into their fullest selves. Through these reflections, we invite you to explore what’s possible when we listen deeply, move with intention, and allow sound to guide us toward transformation. Join us as we continue to chart the path of resonance, one note at a time.
