From Self-Rejection to Self-Love: Journeying Through the Body & VOICE to Reclaim Our True Nature

"The body remembers what the mind forgets: how to love, how to root, how to become."

How deep listening, movement, and voice awaken the Self we were always meant to be.

Today I had the honor of witnessing something extraordinary during a sound therapy healing session with a client.

I feel called to share it, not only as a reflection, but as an offering — an invitation for all of us to notice where we might be shrinking, and how we might begin to expand back into our true nature.

When my client arrived, she was unsure what she wanted to focus on.
Rather than staying in the mind, spinning stories and trying to "figure it out," I had an instinct to guide her into her body first.

We began with a simple embodiment exercise: feeling her feet, sensing the tall, long structure of her body, rooting herself into the earth.
As she dropped into this presence, something beautiful happened.
She connected to herself as a tree — strong, tall, deeply rooted.

Her nickname spontaneously became a song, a vibration that ran through her core, filling her with a new sense of power and groundedness.
Excitement started to flow up and down her system like sap rising in spring.

From this embodied place — not the chatter of the mind, but the intelligence of her living system — her true focus emerged with clarity: self-love.

Following an intuitive nudge, I invited her to map this out using objects, creating a three-dimensional field to explore her inner landscape.
As she viewed the map, moving around it, seeing it from different angles and proximities, a deep realization surfaced:
"Self-rejection gets in the way of self-love."
This was not an intellectual insight — it was a full-body knowing.
It hit her with the undeniable truth of lived experience.
She saw how self-rejection — not lack of effort, not unworthiness — had been the obstacle, rooted deep in her body, showing up in her throat, her thyroid, and through patterns in her maternal lineage.

It was an honor to witness this moment of revelation.

From there, we moved into sound — activating the throat chakra, bringing vibration and percussion into her system to loosen and release the imprints of self-rejection.
The being we met through this work was nothing short of magnificent: tall, rooted, radiant, and alive.

Yet to survive — to fit the systems and structures around her — she had learned to shrink, to reject her own needs and longings.
She realized that it was not herself she needed to reject, but the systems that demanded her to fragment her authenticity in order to belong.

This is not just her story.
This is a human story.

Each of us, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, has been conditioned to shrink — to make ourselves smaller, tighter, more palatable, more productive, more "safe."

We compromise the natural flow of our being.
And our body tells the story: in tension, in pain, in stuck emotions, in numbness.

But the time for shrinking is over.

We are being called to expand — to reconnect with our true nature, to bring our full presence and voice into the world.

Self-love is not an external project.
It’s not about taking baths or buying gifts for ourselves — though those things can be beautiful rituals.
True self-love is an internal process:
Recognizing where we have adapted by rejecting parts of ourselves, facing those fears and restrictions with compassion, and allowing them to guide us back home.

So I leave you with these invitations for reflection:
  • Where do you feel self-rejection in your body?
Look for traces of resistance — tightness, pain, numbness, or a sense of disconnect.
  • When you bring awareness to that place, what emotions are hiding there?
If you could let that part of you speak, what would it say?
  • If this part had a face, a voice — or if it were a five-year-old child — how could you meet it with love?
What would it need to hear, to feel safe, seen, and accepted?
Self-love begins here:
Not in fixing what is broken, but in witnessing what’s been hidden.
In offering our presence where we once withheld it.
And in choosing, moment by moment, to expand into the truth of who we are.

Love is not something we need to earn through improvement.
Love is the ground we are meant to root into, so we can grow tall, wide, vibrant — like the tree that already knows its place in the forest of life.

It is time to unshrink.
It is time to expand.
It is time to become nature once again — with Self-love.

    FIELD NOTES

Welcome to Field Notes, where we share stories of transformation, moments of resonance, and the profound insights that emerge from our work at Creativity Lab. Each entry captures the essence of our journey—working with sound, movement, and reflection to help individuals reconnect with their inner wisdom, embrace their authentic expression, and find balance in the dualities of life. These notes offer a glimpse into the shifts we witness: the reclamation of joy through pain, the power of trusting one’s inner voice, and the beauty of holding space for others to step into their fullest selves. Through these reflections, we invite you to explore what’s possible when we listen deeply, move with intention, and allow sound to guide us toward transformation. Join us as we continue to chart the path of resonance, one note at a time.
